The island kingdom of Ingøy is situated on 71° N and 24° E about 50 km northwest of Hammerfest and barely 30 km west of North Cape (which we can see from here). Ingøy has been named “the daughter of the great Arctic Ocean”. Despite its position outermost facing the ocean – it is quite exuberant with more than 220 known flower speciments and similar types of vegetation. The unique skerries surrounding the island protect us like a giant breakwater against the mighte and roaring arctic Ocean.

Ingøy is a part of the local council of Måsøy with other small island communities. We live in a area where people always have been forced to fight against the powerful elements of the nature – the mighty ocean and stormy weather. Many people think we live on the outskirt of civilization and maybe we do. But today it takes no more than 2 hours to the nearest town, Hammerfest, with the local express ferry.
